The places between us

I’ve always imagined that couples who live in a far-away place of natural beauty like a forest on top of the mountains facing a clear sunset could never get divorced. Whatever problems they may have during the day would disappear every evening as soon as they watch the sunset. They must be so happy with the land that they would confuse that with being happy with each other, even if they would hate each other had they lived anywhere else. Like young strangers from different countries falling in love with Paris, sublimating that feeling toward each other, even though they don’t know each other’s names or language.

I don’t even know who I’m sitting next to in this picture, but I imagine I could have easily loved her that day.
